"Because a frequency..
..is a terrible thing to waste"
An ARRL Special Service Club Member Indiana Repeater Council
January, 1995 Newsletter
on Friday, January 6,
1995 at 6:00 p.m. Come join us and see
all your ham friends and enjoy a meal
out together. As an incentive to boost
our meeting attendance, we will have
various prizes and programs at future
meetings. If you have a prize to donate
or a short program to present, contact
Neil about scheduling. DON'T MISS IT!!
THE E.A.R.S. CHRISTMAS PARTY was
enjoyed by all at Wolf's BBQ. N9RAH
won a year's subscription to Amateur
Radio Trader. A report on the hamfest
was given, as well as future plans for
E.A.R.S. and the repeater network. An
update on the interference from packet
was given. It was decided to move
meetings back to Fridays as more people
could attend on that day. A discussion
was held about alternative sites for the
hamfest since it has outgrown our
present facility.
THE EVANSVILLE WINTER HAMFEST
was even bigger than last year! Thanks
to all the people who helped make the
hamfest a huge success. We had to
make last minute arrangements for
additional tables as the 115 originally planned sold out about a week before the hamfest. We were able to come up
with 135, and sold 127. Six hundred
people attended this year's hamfest. All
wall spaces have been sold for next
year's hamfest. Next year's event will be
on Sat., Nov. 25 at the Vanderburgh 4-H
Fairgrounds.
HOOSIER HAMFEST! E.A.R.S. will
sponsor the 1st Annual Hoosier Hamfest
on Saturday, September 2, 1995 at the
Indianapolis Armory (Holt Rd. & I-70)
from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Tables: $15
Admission: $6. This hamfest will be
used to support the 145.25 Indianapolis
system. For more information on the
Hoosier Hamfest, contact Marty KA9PCT
at (317) 387-9667.
GOOD NEWS FROM THE I.R.S.?? Yes,
after nearly two years E.A.R.S. is now a
recognized non-profit corporation by the
Internal Revenue Service. Therefore, all
donations are TAX DEDUCTIBLE. (Also,
non-profit mailing will soon be available
to us!) Many thanks to Tom Washburne,
WB9ZFN, for his legal advice in this
frustrating task.
WORK ON THE 145.25 LINK is
progressing as a new transmitter was
installed last week. We are expecting
few problems once the preselector
comes back from repair.
NEWSLINE appeared back on the
E.A.R.S. system on Sunday, December
18 at 10 p.m. Several amateurs
responded that they appreciated this
service. Therefore, we will be carrying
Newsline on tape delay (via satellite)
every Monday at 9:00 p.m. Central as a
part of the WIDE AREA NET, to be
restarted on Monday, January 2. Check-ins will be taken at 9, followed by
Newsline, followed by an open round-table discussion about items in the
bulletins, or just rag chew. Be sure to
check in each Monday at 9:00 p.m.
